What EcoGPT does well
EcoGPT proved that people want climate-conscious AI. That was not obvious before they did it, and the whole category — including us — benefits from it.
They have a large, loyal mobile audience, a 4.8-star app rating, and a lot of trees planted. Credit where it is due.
The honest caveat

EcoGPT has a much larger user base than we do and has planted a lot of trees. We are the newer, smaller product. The difference we are arguing for here is transparency, not scale.

Treechat is web-first, so it works in any browser without installing anything. EcoGPT is mobile-first and has no browser version.
An energy receipt on every answer, plus a published methodology and a live measured runtime energy mix. You can read how the number is produced rather than taking it on faith.
At-source renewable means the electricity is generated where the compute runs — our fallback capacity in Norway runs on at-source hydro. Certificate-based renewable means renewable generation is bought elsewhere on the grid to match the consumption. Both are legitimate. They are not the same thing, so we label them separately rather than rounding up.
Some of it is measured and some of it is estimated, and we mark which is which. Providers do not publish per-token electricity use, so per-answer energy is a careful estimate with visible assumptions. The runtime energy mix is measured.
